Sometimes all we need in life is a moment of peace with a friendly warm aroma, and an excuse to be alone and just be ourselves. These precious moments make our day and get us ready to face our stresses.

Tea proves a great excuse to take a break from the hustle of life and enjoy some serene time. Apart from my philosophic introspection, Tea has scientifically been proven to reduce stress and boost your spirit.

Now, let’s look at a few mood-boosting teas that could warm up your day:

Green Tea: The 'Emma Watson of Teas' Calms the Nerves

I would love to start with green tea which is what I call the 'Emma Watson of teas'. The simile might sound baffling but I obviously have my reasons. The tea, like her, is smart and intelligent. It is also known as the 'tea of the East', so you could already associate all kinds of magical powers with it.

Green tea is famous for it’s digestive qualities which accelerates metabolism and helps in reducing weight. You could all very well imagine that how weight loss could actually cheer you up! Green tea contains theanine which helps in calming down nerves and lifts the spirits. It affects the dopamine levels to create a happy state of mind.

If you are feeling grumpy about life and nothing seems to be working then fix yourself a cup of green tea and go all serene about life.

Masala Chai

Masala Chai: Ayurvedic Qualities

Masala Chai hails from the East too, and is packed with all sorts of ayurvedic qualities. It might sound different to your tastebuds, but it’s famous for healing qualities and mood-boosting elements. The fun part is that Masala Chai can be prepared with several different recipes, and you could always experiment and come up with your own. Here's one recipe to try:

Masala Chai Recipe

1-2 Teaspoons of Black tea
1.5 Cups of Heated Fresh Milk or 1/2 Milk + 1/2 Water (for a lighter version)
A Pinch of Salt
1-2 Teaspoons of Sugar or Honey
2-3 Tablespoons of Masala: made up of spices which suit your taste. Usually a mix of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and cloves. Mix & strain as desired.

Masala Chai's ingredients improve your body’s defence mechanism naturally and helps in soothing your anxieties. It’s my personal favourite too which certainly adds to it’s browny points!

Saffron Tea: A Luxurious Mood-Booster

Saffron tea is our third recommendation for it’s mood boasting qualities. These qualities are evident from it’s luxurious name. Saffron is known for it’s anti-depressant and mood-elevating qualities. The pretty orange spice is no less than a wonder in terms of taste and qualities. It also aids in weight loss and you could clearly see the connection with happiness if you are concerned with your weight. Saffron tea has also been compared with Prozac due to it’s mood lifting qualities.

Even if we put these medical researches and alluring recipes aside, the ritual of making tea and taking some time out for yourself is a great mood-booster. Try sharing your favorite tea with a loved one and see it making your day!

It's now tea-time and I must go. But before I leave you, here is a good link that could help you if you are looking for more mood-boosting foods: 7 Foods That Boost Every Type of Bad Mood
